- This can be calculated in different ways; one example of an appropriate formula is: Population doublings (PDs) = the log of the ratio of the final count (N) to the starting (baseline) count (Xo), divided by the log of 2. That is: PD = [log(N ÷ Xo)] ÷ log 2.
