- The list of essential medicines that has been defined, adopted, and published at country level. This list is normally used by all health facilities, including main hospitals. To generate its own list of essential pharmaceuticals, each country may adapt the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines (EML) updated by the WHO’s Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines at two-year intervals.
