- Definition
- A medication which contains a combination of multiple active ingredients. Originally the term was created to aim at prevention of cardiovascular disease. A polypill can also often be aimed to be consumed widespread in the population, even currently healthy ones, as a means of preventive medicine. It is intended to reduce the number of tablets or capsules that need to be taken, which in turn may facilitate handling and administration of the medicines. When used for preemptive use, the dosages are naturally relatively low compared to what is administred to people already having disease or significant risk factors.
