Definition
In the context of guidance about adventitious agent safety of medicines and therapeutic goods that contain or are produced from human blood or plasma means:   An infectious agent that is introduced into a therapeutic good during collection of raw materials or the manufacturing process. Adventitious agents include mycoplasma (a type of bacteria), viruses and agents that cause transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (prions).
