- entity within a substance that has a complete and continuous molecular structure. When the strength of a product is based on a moiety, the moiety should be defined in a consistent manner across all products. In order to have a definitive moiety, the free acid and free base should be used as the moiety upon which strength should be based. NOTE Within this document moiety will be used in the context of non-stoichiometric chemicals. Moieties in general are also be single substances, ions, or solvate molecules.
