Definition
Liquid preparations extemporaneously prepared by soaking the herbal substance(s), reduced to a suitable size, in water at room temperature for a defined period of time, usually for 30 minutes, when not otherwise specified. The corresponding operation is referred to as ‘maceration’. When the maceration is performed with gentle heating at a temperature higher than room temperature, but not to boiling, the process is termed ‘digestion’.
