Definition
a licensed establishment primarily engaged in providing diagnostic and medical treatment, and monitoring services to in-patients who suffer from mental illness or substance abuse disorders. The treatment often requires an extended stay in an in-patient setting including hostelling and nutritional facilities. Psychiatric, psychological, and social work services are available at the facility. These hospitals usually provide other services, such as out-patient care, clinical laboratory tests, diagnostic X-rays, and electroencephalography services.
